water, water every where

Success: We made it to the aquarium today. Nobody got lost. We even added an extra adventurer to our happy band.

From the train station it was only a three minute walk to the aquarium but there was a four lane road between us and it. Fortunately, the city planners had foreseen our issue. I spotted a sign that said Enoshima Aquarium and pointed down a flight of stairs. The stairs led to a tunnel which passed under the street and let out across the courtyard from the aquarium.

Admission was 2000 yen each and the place was pretty packed. I guess there's not much else to do on a rainy afternoon. I could try to explain what we saw inside, but it might be more effective to just show you.

A tidal pool with actual tides.

A huge viewing tank with rays, sharks and puffer fish.

Some colorful coral.

And the coolest fish I've ever seen. This one is called a Bluefish Sea Robin.

They also had king crabs with leg spans as wide as I am tall.

And these charming creatures.

Yes they look like sea cockroaches. These were only a couple of inches long but the ones in the tank beside them were over a foot. They're a kind of isopod. The giant ones are are sometimes eaten in Tiawan. And you thought lobsters were creepy looking.

The best part of the aquarium was the jelly fish room. You couldn't help but feel peaceful when you looked at the glowing blue water with these creatures wafting through it. Check this out.

And this.

but this is the coolest thing ever, a jellyfish that changes color as it swims, like a little LED creature.

Nature rocks.

I leave you today with a quote from Animal Crossing, "Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks."
